Why Am I Here? The Sikh Answer to the Meaning of Life

Why am I here and why do success, money, relationships and status never make us feel complete for long? In the first video of a new Basics of Sikhi series, we explore the Sikh answer to the meaning and purpose of life. Before Sikhi answers “Why am I here?”, it asks a deeper question: “Who am I?” Try introducing yourself without mentioning anything that could be taken from you—your job, surname, relationship status, possessions, achievements or follower count. What remains when every label is removed? Through the image of a drop and the ocean, this video introduces the soul, ego, attachment, the One and the role of the Satguru. Sikhi teaches that we are not the temporary identities we spend our lives building and protecting. Just as a drop contains the same water as the ocean, our deepest identity cannot be reduced to a name, career or social status. This human life is an opportunity to recognise who we truly are, break through the distractions of ego and attachment, and find our way back to the One. “The drop is in the ocean, and the ocean is in the drop. Who understands and knows this?” So how do we actually reconnect with the One? Join us in the next video as we explore the answer through the Guru’s lens. Who are you without your labels? Share your answer in the comments. Subscribe to Basics of Sikhi for accessible videos exploring Sikhi, spirituality and life’s biggest questions. #PurposeOfLife #MeaningOfLife #Sikhi

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: A Martyr for All Humanity

In 1675, a moment of courage changed the meaning of freedom for millions. This is the story of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Sikh Guru, a Guru who gave his life not to protect his own religion, but to defend someone else’s right to practice theirs. Long before the words “human rights” or “freedom of religion” entered global conversations, the Gurus of Sikhi were already standing for them. At a time when Mughal authorities outlawed the right of Hindus to practice their faith, Guru Tegh Bahadur rose against oppression with a message that still speaks to us today This video explores: • The historical events of 1675 • Why Hindu leaders sought the Guru’s protection • How the Guru’s sacrifice reshaped religious freedom in the East • The modern relevance of this story in an age of rising intolerance • Guru Nanak’s vision of a world without fear or hate • The story of Guru Tegh Bahadur is not just Sikh history. It is human history. • His stand belongs to every community that values dignity, conscience, and the right to believe freely. 🙏 If this message resonates, watch our companion video: https://youtu.be/0chJ8G9mz7A The Beautiful World Guru Nanak Dreamed Of, which offers a deeper understanding of the Gurus and their vision for a free and fearless humanity.

Why Sikhs Don’t Wear Caps or Hats in the Gurdwara | Q&A

In the Darbar of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there is a dress code that we should follow with respect. We cover our heads with a turban, scarf, or dupatta to show humility, and caps or hats aren’t part of this tradition. Instead of looking to Western culture for fashion, we should focus on building a connection with our Guru. Meeting our Guru with love and respect means following the Gurdwara's dress code, keeping our minds and hearts on the spiritual path.
